SEM TECHNICIAN / CUSTOMER SERVICE ENGINEER (Posted 4/13/2011):

ABOUT THE JOB:

SEMTech Solutions is looking for a Field Service Engineer / Technician to be based in the Billerica, MA Area.

SEMTech Solutions is a leading provider of used Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs). We recondition each SEM upon arrival into our facility and then install, train, and service these refurbished Scanning Electron Microscopes throughout the world.

 

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

This Field Service Engineer / Technician role will typically spend the majority of their time working in the Billerica, MA facility under the supervision of a Senior Field Service Engineer or Manager. The remaining time is utilized by providing support activity to all various types of Service calls ranging from Basic to Advanced, Preventative Maintenance Routines (PM’s), Installations, as well as Sales Support. In addition, the engineer / technician will hold the responsibility of scheduling all services within their territory at Managements’ discretion. Generally, the engineer / technician will possess the ability to service a wide range of instrument models within an assigned territory with minimal supervision.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Maintain appropriate records of all work performed;

• Portray professionalism and pride in appearance;

• Provide a positive attitude to all employees and customers;

• Provide preventive maintenance and emergency service on several instruments or product lines as required; • Protect and maintain company property (test equipment, tools, etc.);

• Pick up and return messages and service calls from customers in a professional manner;

• Work from schematics using various test equipment and mathematical calculations specific to electronics;

• Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, as required;

• Set and keep appropriate schedules for service on the assigned equipment;

• Provide highly detailed documentation for the purpose of problem resolution and/or SEM training;

• Demonstrate ability to transfer technical knowledge to less experienced engineers / technicians through OJT or Classroom Training;

• Successfully demonstrate ability to work independently with limited supervision;

• Other assigned duties/tasks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Requires a minimum of an Associates of Science degree in electronics or equivalent;

• Bachelors of Science degree in Electronics Engineering is a plus;

• Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry as applied to Scanning Electron Microscopes;

• Electronics, Mechanical, Computer, and equipment specific operation skills are must;

• Experience using digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools and computers;

• Basic Knowledge and understanding of Physics and Chemistry;

• Experience disassembling and assembling intricate parts as related to selected instruments;

• The ability to demonstrate the following:

     o Strong work ethic; (On time to work and training, on time completion of assignments, strong preparation for assignments, effective teamwork, etc.);

     o Strong verbal and written communication skills with management, co-workers, internal and external customers;

     o Effectively communicate information to customers and manager regarding service activities and schedules;

• The ability to effectively interface with customers, service department personnel and others;

• Must have and retain valid driver’s license in Resident State and be insurable with our insurance;

• Willingness to maintain a safety oriented work environment and attitude.
